Scuba Training Overview: What You Need to Know

ITDA Scuba training covers the basics and beyond. We teach you how to use diving equipment, manage underwater conditions, and respond to emergencies. Training usually starts with Dive theory. You learn about pressure, buoyancy, and dive planning. Then, you practice skills and drills in a pool or confined water. Finally, you will complete open water dives under supervision.

Training programs vary by agency, but all follow strict International safety standards. They include:

  • Equipment familiarization (use of and safety drills)

  • Breathing techniques (Airway Control and Management)

  • Equalizing pressure (Diving Physiology)

  • Underwater communications (Sign Language)

  • Emergency procedures (Rescue from depth & Egress)

ITDA Training builds confidence. It prepares you for real diving conditions. You will learn to stay calm and make smart decisions, under pressure. This basic foundation is crucial for safe diving.

How Long Does It Take to Become an ITDA Certified Scuba Diver?

Some programs offer our unique 'ITDA Club System' with flexible pacing, become a club member and pay over time, allowing you to spread training over 6-8weeks. However ITDA-IHMP International, place more importance on the value of experience in the diving education process.

We therefore offer a flexible entry level Scuba Certification with programs up to five (5) days with 10 Open Water dives. Or if on vacation, certification levels may begin with just a 1-2 Dive session(s) as an "Experience Program". - Introduction to Scuba (With up to 2 years allowed to upgrade by completing our Open Water Scuba Diver program.

Here’s a typical timeline:

  3. Day 5-6: +4 More Dives as experience dives (To really hone skills & gain experience)
